Hello There! Long time no see!

Instead of boring you with all the reasons why I haven’t posted here in months, I will simply tell you: adult life. Let’s leave it at that, ok? lol

Let’s jump straight into today’s recipe: Jerk Meatballs.

Jerk Meatballs

I have just realized that this is my fourth meatball recipe… too many? Absolutely not!

I will never apologize for loving convenient and hassle-free recipes. No, seriously: how can one go wrong with meatballs? You mix the ingredients, shape the meatballs, fry or bake them, and voilà! Dinner? Savory snack? Party food? You got it!

Jerk Meatballs

Choice of Meat

Have fun! I have made pork, beef and pork, beef, chicken and pork and even turkey meatballs… Trust me: they all taste fine, so feel free to use your preferred choice of meat or whatever it’s available to you.

Jerk Meatballs

Jerk Meatballs

Traditionally, the term « jerk » refers to the technique of cooking the meat (usually chicken): the chicken is smoked slowly over wood to give it a smokey flavor. Nowadays, the term “jerk” is used to indicate the dry seasoning mix composed of various spices, such as paprika, onion, garlic, cinnamon, nutmeg and an assortment of peppers, including the famous Jamaican allspice.

I usually make a batch, using this recipe, and store it in the cabinet, ready-for-use.

For this recipe, I use the mix both in the meatballs and the sauce.

I also used a tablespoon of green seasoning: I shared the ingredients in my Jamaican Oxtail recipe.

Jerk Sauce Marinade

Jerk Sauce

The star of the recipe! My personal twist to the classic jerk marinade, this sauce will feel like an explosion of flavor in your mouth… the good kind, I promise.

Some people use pineapple juice, some use soy sauce: I use orange and lime juice, I add soy sauce and skip the ketchup.

This sauce goes well with potato fries, yam fries, rice, quinoa, chicken and red meat.

Sides

You can eat these jerk meatballs by themselves, with fries or over rice. You can even repurpose them and add them to soup or tomato sauce.
